About Ceylonese Wellness

Ceylonese Wellness is a tribute to our Founder, Piyumi Buddhakorala's, hometown, Sri Lanka. This little island off the coast of the Indian Ocean was originally named Ceylon during the British colonization over 70+ years ago. VIRTUAL THERAPY WHEN YOU NEED IT MOST

Piyumi Buddhakorala

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of New York and Certified as a Seminar Training in Field Instruction (SIFI). I graduated from Columbia School of Social Work and have over ten years of experience working with individuals with trauma, substance use, employment concerns, depression, anxiety, psychotic, bipolar and borderline symptoms.

In addition to my providing therapy, I have extensive experience working with the justice involved individuals; advocating for their release into mandated programs; connecting them to necessary services in the community. I also oversee the quality improvement aspect of justice involved programs; ensuring that trauma-informed, culturally competent and anti-racist services are being rendered.

I believe mental health is just as important as medical health, since after all, your head is connected to your body. I offer individual therapy for adolescents and adults, bringing my experience within a number of integrative behavioral health programs to support clients' unique needs. Evidence-based interventions grounds my practice and prioritizes a social justice framework. Through a culturally-sensitive and trauma-informed lens, I work to foster the therapeutic relationship to gently challenge clients to get curious about how current patterns of behaviors and ways of thinking serve them.

My practice includes using psychodynamic, strengths-based & harm-reduction approaches to support clients struggling with depression, feeling that life isn't worth living, anxiety, low self-esteem, interpersonal conflict and navigating significant life changes, by creating a safe space to be vulnerable without judgement.

If you haven't been feeling like yourself, want to improve self-worth and asserting boundaries; or you may have trouble with day-to-day activities, therapy can be a great place to start feeling better. Whether you're new to therapy or have connected in the past, I look forward to partnering with you on your continued journey of healing and self-discovery.
